Tips.
As
you have seen the textures are a nice addition to 3d shapes.
Of course with the texture you can improve the look of a shape or an interface. But sometimes too many texture, or a complex texture can make difficult to look the image.
Look here:
As you can see the image 1 is not clear. In the image 2 the background make's it easier to see the shape.
Besides in this image add a texture to the shape can complicate again the look.
To finish: check always the gaussian blur and emboss values. Try several values: each time you'll get different effects: you can get a good look mainly from these Photoshop filters.
